Vera Caspary

Vera Caspary was born in Chicago in 1899. She started out her career writing advertising copy but quit the job out of boredom and began writing short stories, many of which were eventually turned into screenplays. The films “Such Women Are Dangerous,” “Private Scandal,” “I'll Love You Always,” “Easy Living,” and “Scandal Street” are all based on short stories she wrote. Her novels include “White Girl,” “Thicker Than Water,” “Bedelia,” and “Laura,” which Caspary eventually adapted for the stage with George Sklar. She authored the stage play BLIND MICE, as well as screenplays for “A Letter to Three Wives,” “I Can Get It for You Wholesale,” “Blue Gardenia,” “Les Girls,” and “Bachelor in Paradise.” Her autobiography, “The Secrets of Grown-Ups,” was published in 1979. She passed away in 1987.
